Self Assessment |
It has been a very rewarding road traveled. I have expanded my knowledge and resources as a professional and in turn it has greatly benefited my students. I am better able to engage and support my students to enhance their understanding. I am more prepared when it comes to understanding and organizing subject matter and also when planning and designing instruction for all students. I will always have areas of improvement and at no step am I able to be a innovator in my instruction to students, but that is something to strive for.
Professional Goal
A professional goal that I have is to make my grading more transparent and student accountable. Often times grades are still this mysterious thing that happens at report card time. It is often an anxious time for students, where they don't know how will they really have been doing and are now feeling the sudden pressure of the outcome. As a new teacher it is hard to keep up with all the grading and feedback in a timely manner and even with that the students still look and throw the information away. I what I want to work on are ways for the students to take more accountability for their work so they know exactly why, and where they are standing in the class.

Why the need?Students do better when they know exactly what they are working towards. If they know that their writing is a 2 because of the rubric that they are familiar with was used, then they know ways that they can work on to fix it. If they can see on a diagnostics that they are struggling on a particular concept they will be able to identify it as an area of need and they will work towards mastering it.
Just like we don't want our students to fail, students don't want to fail. Students will try and work hard to improve, but they can't do do unless they know where. |

Currently to stay connected professionally I am pursing my masters in Instructional Technology. So far I am learning about digital literacy and the need to teach our students digital citizenship which is how to safely investigate online. I am already planning on how to integrate what I am learning into next years classroom. I also plan on further taking advantage of the professional development training that go on through out the year.
Personally I am planning on becoming a very organized person as I on changes in the home and in the next school year. I will be taking advantage of the break to recharge so I am fresh for the incoming class. |

For new teachers
It will be stressful and at times feel overwhelming, but you choose to do this for a reason, a higher calling if you will, and you just have to keep that in mind. Ask for advice when times get tough. Reach out and find those on campus you admire and respect, they will be more than willing to steer you in the right direction.
Give yourself some me time. You will want to take all you work home from school everyday and maybe at first that's exactly what you need to do, but it will not be forever. This can add to the stress and at sometime you are going to need to put yourself first. You can't do you best teaching if you are run down. |
